Patents: A Tool for Technological Intelligence

Patents are the biggest source of technological information. The patent to the inventor as a reward given for innovation in the form of exclusive right of monopoly for a period of 20 years from the priority date of the invention. Due to the advancement in the field of IT and the Internet, now these valuable documents are in the scope of the general public. Any person  in the art can go through various patent databases and after a search you can obtain the patent document of their need. There are different patent databases namely the USPTO , EPO, JPO, etc freely open to public access. If we go through the patents associated with a specific technology area , we will be able to find lots of information on the life cycle of knowledge , technological innovation . ,
